RE: catch that gadge
The reminisce of Amigas and tape decks for us will be the next generations iPhones and Media Centers, ah, thems were the days...

Reminds me, I binned my first ever PC the other month, a Pentium4 with 8Gb HDD and 4x SCSI CD burner that set me back £1900 of a student loan that I only finished repaying 12months ago. Bloody hell! Blink

Come to think of it, it did have an analogue Hauppauge TV tuner in so you could say that my first 'media center' pc was back in 1998.

RE: catch that gadge
Hey I can better that, my first computer was a 386 that I bought from Time. Complete package of pc, printer, scanner and two games. That set me back £2200. Doh
It was current for 3 months until the 486 came out. In fact I think I tried to add in a sound card and doomed the mobo before I finished paying it off. Wah

Also reminds me of downloading songs off napster. Taking 30 minutes to download 1 song on my 56k modem.

RE: catch that gadge
My first was the Apple 2E, and I remember connecting to a bulletin board because there was no internet back then lol. Yes I am getting very old. I also remember getting excited when the Apple Mac came out with a colour screen. I remember Dad bringing home a Mac LE?? that cost about 7500 aussie dollars and getting all excited. My mobile has more impressive computing power now lol

RE: catch that gadge
...and this NEC G9 was my first phone. £20/month with 15 minutes free talk time and no ability to send text messages across networks until about 2 years later. Just look at that amazing battery life, 28hrs standby, and that was on a good day! I think I threw it out the window of the car 12months later when the keypad packed up.

Come to think of it, I also use to walk around with one of these MZ-R30 minidisc players in pocket as well at the same time. I use to keep it near the phone so when it rang I would hear the interference through the headphones cos it had no vibrate function. Damn I must have had big pockets Blink

Oh, and if you had one of these StarTACs, you were considered the don!

RE: catch that gadge
When you look back at yesteryears technology, does any one get a sense of it being the better years?
Don't get me wrong Im not doing a Tom and Barbara, converting myself to a simplistic life style but sometimes don't you ever think life would be simpler without these time saving gadgets.
I wonder sometimes I wish I didn't have a phone to be contacted, emails or time wasting tv but on the other hand.... it's very cool and fun.

Would anyone choose to do the good life and give up todays gadge?

Never!

Having said that, the days when I forget my phone and leave it at home I do feel slightly liberated.

Is that liberated, with a slight undertone of unrational panic?
