Whs suspend woes
I need help bad.
Ive got lights out working, normal suspend and hibernate work turning off, but for the love of money can't always get it to wake. Well thats not true it does wake up through lights out and normal scheduled times , it powers on, fans work, hard drives click away but I cant see server on the network or connect to it using remote connect. Iv'e looked on the router and it states the server is on the network, I can even ping the server from another computer. I thought I should connect monitor to see whats happning, but even that won't power up, so in effect I have a box that makes whirry noises, but won't let me talk to it. Things work again as soon as I hard reset. So I guess I'm not going to get answers to solving this, but does anyone know what I can do to see if an errors are being generated? What sort of things I could do to help my self? I would really appriciate any help. "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |

You can see where the wife (who couldn't sleep last night) got up and turned the lounge PC on to watch TV with the server coming out of hibernation at 3am this morning: No help to you though ![]() Have you got all the latest drivers installed? My current server wouldn't hibernate until I had updated the graphics drivers (which ironically isn't really used in a 'headless install'). Check your Device Manager for any missing/alerted hardware driver issues. Have you checked the Event Viewer to see what's been happening on the server? elootos - mediacenterhouse.com This forum has no strict rules, just those I make up as I go along! |

RE: Whs suspend woes
I can honestly say that the graphic driver is updated, because the mobo does not have graphics, so I had to use my zotac gt940 from htpc to setup server. So suspend wouldnt work with out drivers.
The idea was to take out gpu card and just run it through remote connection. The problems is exactly the same with or without gpu card in as well. I don't think its a lights out problem it does turn on when asked to physically, its just when it is on its non responsive and thus is useless untill I do a reboot. I did look at event view and it came up with something about svqserver error, which I'm not sure about and google wasnt much help either. BTW what sort of delay times do you get from server waking up to becoming completley usefull for the htpc? "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |

When booting the kitchen PC in the morning, the dekstop is up for about 20seconds before the Home Server Connector icon turns green. Shame you've hit a problem with it. So it doesn't sound like a driver issue then. Do you have the server going to sleep or hibernate? elootos - mediacenterhouse.com This forum has no strict rules, just those I make up as I go along! |

RE: Whs suspend woes
Yea hibernate can be funny sometimes, so I thought for testing purposes I should turn off all hibernate features.
I'm away next week for work, so im keen to sort out. Looks like another evening under the hood. "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |

I'd say it was the other way around, sleep can be tricky to get right, hibernate has always worked with me on all PCs I've had. Are there any external devices plugged into the server? Nope nothing plugged in. No mouse, keyboard, drives or monitors. Just a power cable and ethernet cable.
What I dont understand is why the lights are on but nobodys home. Why would all the drives spin up, fans turn on and effectivly look like its alive and running, but acting like a brick? "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |

Have you tried checking to see what power management is set to for the network adapter in device manager/network adapter properties? Also is your mobo running the latest version of the bios just in case it is a bios issue? |

Hi hammerhead
Yea did the bios when I installed WHS Network adapter has the new drivers plus the power managment settings are all correct I'm able to ping the ip address no problem, and the router has been set so the server has a static ip. "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |
