WOL instead of stupid relays...
I use wireless relays (Maplin ones) to control the Media Centers power buttons etc, but the bedroom one has failed again for the third time in 3 years; and they're £30 a pop! Not brilliant when all you want to do is watch a bit of TV in bed.

Plus I'm not so keen on having them powered on all the time; those 12V power supplies always seem to get too hot Unsure

So with a bit of thinking I thought why not try Wake On Lan via your phone!

I installed 'WoL Wake On Lan' by Ben Finnigan through the Android Market (most popular one) and thankfully it has widget based shortcuts you can place on the home screen.

Thankfully the wife also has an android phone so I have also installed it for her and we both now have a home page of shortcuts to turn on any of the home Media Centres as well as a link for the myRemote app! Pure WAF so far Thumb

RE: WOL instead of stupid relays...
just to add if anyone wants to do this on an iphone, iRPM does a really good job, and also has a shutdown option, plus if configured with your router correctly can also turn on/shut down over 3g. Been using it for ages.

Unfortunately wp7 phone doesnt have a decent wol app yet, which is a shame because it would be good to have a tile to press to turn on the pc.
