UNetbootin and Super Grub Disk
In experimenting with Ubuntu/MythTV etc etc, I buggered up my laptop by trying to install them on an external USB drive, problem was that without the USB drive plugged in, the laptop wouldn't boot. I got a 'device not found' error and a grub-rescue command prompt. Not great.
Looking around, everyone recommended running the Windows install disk and booting into rescue mode. However my laptop has no CD drive, let alone a windows disk. And the stored rescue mode on the HDD (F4) wouldn't boot up either. The answer was to download UNetbootin and select Super Grub Disk from it's menu; this downloaded SGD and it installed it onto a USB stick. Reboot with the USB stick in and select 'Windows MBR fix' and voila!! Windows now boots back up properly. Phew!

The bloody partitions had screwed up and it would not accept the win disc. A linux later I got it sorted, now I got to wait soooooooooo long for xp to reinstall. ![]() So anyways cheers for the timely prompt. "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |
