Odd issue with my HTPC

Odd issue with my HTPC
When I pause a copied blu ray (one of mine), and then replay I lose audio. The amp shows the True HD or DTS MA on the system, but nothing out of the speakers.

When I pause and then replay a copied DVD no problem with sound - still pays back Dolby Digital.

Any idea why this would be happening?

Just installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 - can't say if this problem was there before or not - had Macafee on there before then.

Thoughts? Its a real pain that I can't pause a blu ray film to take a pee or get a drink!!!

Please help!!

I use to have a similar problem too. What software do you use to play the Blu ray.
Mine was a mobo issue for an Asus mobo. Sorted it after a new driver.

I am using TMT3 with Virtual Clone Drive. When I select the blu ray to watch the PC opens TMT3 and then it goes to the film.

Can't recall if this is an old issue or not, but I know I have Transformers on blu copied tot he HTPC and we have watched it off HTPC without problem.

I did have a panic earlier when the HTPC was giving a series of long buzzes (like beeps but not beeps - the kind you get from windows errors. Hope that Kasperskey hasn't reset or done something??

Also getting issues on DVD copies where the picture freezes, sound continues then the picture speeds up to catch up and then it settles back down - surely this isn't right - must be a soft ware issue, but which one???

Cheers

Sometimes you get random beeps when sitting on the keyboard - but I guess you would have realised if you were doing that!!

As for the catchup on DVDs, sounds like a buffering issue. Thing to check is the Resource Monitor (right-click on taskbar) when it happens and see if drive activity spikes or some other process kicks in that uses a lot of CPU usage.

RE: Odd issue with my HTPC
Cheers - good advice. I'll have a look at CPU useage. What should I do if this is the cause of the problem?

I keep the keyboard on the HTPC and only use if when adding movies etc - wife doesn't like the keyboard on the coffee table - looks too cluttered!!

Well nothing should interfere that much with DVD playback. It's not exactly intensive for modern PCs.

If something is causing overload, then it needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled, or left off permanently; nothing should cause 100% CPU usage under normal use unless specifically CPU intensive like a game or video conversion etc.

Thanks - I'll try and get a chance to paly a bit further over the weekend - watched a copy of Robin Hood last Friday and there was no problem with the HTPC. Something else odd happened - my Onkyo switched itself off - had to whizz through the film to where the aamp cut off, but on the whole the HTPC performed fine!

Maybe the earlier issues were one off glitches!!

Cheers though for the advice.

Just thinking, for the earlier issues, was the PC on a clean boot or had it been in/out of sleep?

For me, 99% of all issues are when a machine has been in sleep; these include no TV signal, audio issues, remote controls not working etc.

I never leave it on sleep - always swithed on before use and off when finished - cost of leccy in my house is already high with my lounge TV fed through my Onkyo - its on from 7am to about 11pm 7 days a week!
