New member here from Yulee, FL
I just wanted to drop in and say hello. I've been in the HTPC game for several years now, and while I don't un the biggest badest systems, I do believe in keeping them simple and reliable. My system specs are on my profile. I'm running 4 identical Asus M4A785-M based systems. They run like a dream, and do everything I have ever asked of them for a HTPC.
Now I am researching home automation. I would like to add a system that I can easily expand to my home. My interests include: lighting, security, door locks, CCTV, & HVAC control. A little background on me: The past ten years I have been in the home theater business. Business has suffered greatly with the economy so I went back to school pursuing my AS in criminal justice. I graduated the police academy this past October, and I am now processing with one of the local police departments. I'm sure you'll see me around here from time to time. |

Hi Cabldawg,
Welcome to the forum The idea of Home Automation is something I'd really like to set up to... No idea where to start and my other half (as well as the landlord) won't let me do it yet! - The Ability to control Locks, Blinds, Cameras and lights at the touch of a button has always fascinated me. I'd be grateful if you could share the progress of your future system! |

I was also in the same situation with a landlord as well. Currently I'm staying in an RV while my new home is being built. Once that is completed I will start on the project. I am having the builder run conduit to the key places for televisions, as well as into the kitchen & bathrooms. All of the conduit runs are going back to a central server room so that I can keep everything setup more like a headend. All of my HTPCs and servers will reside in the server room. It will also have it's own air conditioning unit since it will still need to be cooled during the winter months with so much equipment being in there.
I'll update as the project moves along. |

Hello and welcome to the forum! ![]() Your Asus mobos are great bits of kit. Running several myself of that generation and have always been very pleased with the way they run. Ha, living like that in a mobile home is what puts my wife off the idea of us building our own place. I'll convince her one day ![]() Your build sounds quite thorough building a home for all the gear.
