My Work in Progress
Hi Guys,

Recently most of my posts/work have been IT related - mostly due to my WHS upgrades.

Thought it was about time that I showed what else I get up to...

After a week or three of theses babies lying in the box I thought it was about time I ripped holes in the wall of our lounge - just after I had finished wallpapering

Anyway it took a fair bit a research and a few demos to settle on these. Monitor Audio RX6 Silver front and centre and a pair of Silver In wall for the rear.:D

Heres what we started with... after removing old Eltax Arcade towers - they have now been retired to the loft (no pics of these, {edit - except for the matching centre speaker } - bit to old school for public domain - - mind you paired with the MS 309i sub I have they were passable for the odd movie night).

The fronts are 'squeezed in' between the current (sagging) unit and the armchair. Wating for the matching oak unit to be delivered

Now the hard work. As it was, just before the multisaw got fired up.
And the new speakers
[Image: DSC01556.jpg]

Right, one down, complete with thinned platerboard... as the speakers measure 101mm deep in the centre and the cavity was only 95mm a little manipulation was needed to get flush mounting.:P

Same at the other side, and fitted

And painted to match wall paper, used B&Q to scan a sample of the wall paper for the colour and to mix up some paint. Better match in real life than the photos show...

All done.

Except the TV.
The old eltax centre speaker fitted in the unit just nicely but the new Monitor RX6 centre is a little bit bigger so I was forced to put the TV on the wall. Was holding out for a new 50in V10 panny but the local Panny Store can't get me any. Had my name on the list for one of 3 but looks like that's fallen through 'cause they have yet to call me to say it's in:@

So the 42in screen is up. New QED HDMIs ran along with a Wii component, two co-ax runs and two cat6.
Hmmm, the weight of that centre speaker seems to make the old unit sag a little more than before...

The finishing touch, some multicoloured Leds (cheers for the tip Elootos)

What a great upgrade! Clap

I really want some proper in-wall speakers, those Monitor Audios would damn awesome with the grilles off Biggrin

Did you need any backbox or acoustic treatment for the cavity for the speakers?

Cheers for the thanks.

No box or enclosure required. They come complete in their own plastic housing filled with some special accoustic material (according to the bumf), apparently designed with cavities in mind.

They do sound really really good for rear fills.

Onkyo amp lets the side down... maybe i'll divert the cash for the 50in screen to a new amp and wait 'til spring to see what new tech that the 2010 Panny screens will offer.

The covers can come off but we have inquizitive kids who can't help but touch stuff they shouldn't...Wah, so they'll stay on for now...

Cheers,

Looking at the old unit now and it doesn't look as bad as in ther photos Tongue

Never mind, we have a new oak unit on order, should be here in a week or two. I'll post some new pics then.

I'll be looking for a IR extender next as the unit has solid doors. The Keene one looks a favourite.Thumbsup

enjaytee88 that is a swish set up you must be proud. Bravo Sir.

Keene IR kits are fab, dont forget if you need any extra eyes for your set up make sure you order them in one go as they seem to charge £4.50 flat rate for each package.

The inwall speakers were £200 each from Sevenoaks.
But a quick google and I see you can get them here

Don't tend to get cheap internet offers on these, Monitor only distribute to their dealer network. A bit like Denon and the likes.

The only way to get a good price is to buy the rest of the package and ask for some discount for cash Biggrin
