RE: Microsoft to reveal new Windows TV boxes at CES 2011
Lets see, 2 years to release to USA, another year to make it compatible for the rest of the world. First one on the market expensive and buggy, so another year for a decent working model... Little bit behind the times.
Its not that I'm being cynical but its just a little bit to late.
They really had the chance to run with this extender idea for years, especially with win7, but all that's ever really materialised is the xbox and still that's quite fussy and slow (don't know if the new xbox is any better)

With atom computers becoming smaller and cheaper it just makes sense to buy one of those now and just have a fully running media centre.

RE: Microsoft to reveal new Windows TV boxes at CES 2011
But an atom pc is not an extender thats the problem,

In my mind an extender does not need a tv card installed as these live on the main "server" pc , this together with a shared tv guide are what an extender offers over the atom box

The atom box will however play all video formats etc without transcoding which the extender cant,

What we need is a software version of the extender so we can run these on a atom pc but cant see MS doing this as they will loose xbox sales

RE: Microsoft to reveal new Windows TV boxes at CES 2011
I thought I'd heard something about Windows Embedded in a TV before now but wasn't sure if I'd made it up!

Can't be long before we get a nice 42" Asus TV with built in nettop and side loading Blu-ray drive; a nice back panel to pop off and upgrade RAM, components etc. Hell, one is probably already out there!

Not an extender but a BD and TV Tuner enabled STB that will access your stored media and you will have the ability to connect extenders.

Yeah, a bit of humour goes a long way. However I doubt we'll see him again as a Google shows a load of activity from him on the 17th, trying to spam with his username I fear.

More opinionated people would be better round here though now and again Biggrin
