HDMI Distribution
Hi,

Just a quick question with regard to your screen to PC connectivity:

Have you used or ever thought about using HDMI to CAT5 baluns as the distances I have to run are in excess of 10m?

Thanks
Rich

They're not something I've had to use before as luckily my runs are no longer than 10m.

The man you need to ask is Dunks517; he uses baluns throughout his house in his install to feed SkyHD etc.

I have used baluns at work for various other feeds and they've always worked well, so I see no reason why HDMI ones wouldn't perform as you'd hope.

Sounds like you've project on the go, feel free to create a thread about it! Thumbsup

RE: HDMI Distribution
I was looking at baluns to extend to a second screen, but went with a 15m hdmi lead from neet cables on ebay (£49) A couple of £ cheaper than baluns. The reason I went for the HDMI lead was because I didnt want another power adapter in the wall. Funny thing a friend got the same cable, just for a giggle I used a couple piece for the two leads (30m) and connected it to a 360 at one end and my tv at the other end........ it worked at 720p and 1080i!

Yeah, I think the 'limit' of HDMI is 10m, but given some decent shielding and it can stretch quite a bit further.

I guess the benefit of ethernet cabling in a home is it can be used for other types of baluns if need be in the future.

RE: HDMI Distribution
I did a a little bit of research. Most places put the limit of 15m on HDMI as long as the cable is 24 AWG (lower the number = thicker strands) for full 1080p. Tested the cable from my pc to amp and got full hddts @ 1080p. Baluns would be a lot less hassle if you had to thread the cables in walls etc as these hdmi leads are thick buggers. I didnt come across any info with regards to shielding.
