Freesat
Reading around on the net today, apparently ITV HD will become a full HD channel rather than a Red Button service around Easter time on Freesat. Good news for us Windows Media Center users as the service has never been easy to watch or even record. Bring on the world cup then! From here.

And more good news for Freesat, Channel4 HD will also makes its debut around Easter. Hoorah! Also from Digital Spy

Plenty of HD goodness to record, so looks like my new 1.5Tb drive for the Home Server will come in handy then!

RE: Freesat
I know your thread is about freesat but you can get itv HD on sky HD too. Only downside is you must manually install the channel & you can't use the sky+ features ie live pause or record & it's not in the epg either.

Apparently ITV HD is also being added to Sky this April as well as a fully functioning channel Thumbsup So basically it's the end of the Red Button only service.

Are you sure this is good news for Freesat users? I think it is good news only for Freeview users, since the article makes reference only to Freeview?

Good call! Hadn't noticed it refered to the Freeview HD service, Oops

However Channel4HD had been Sky only due to contractual obligations, so the fact it's coming to FreeviewHD can (hopefully) only mean it's coming to Freesat as well. (of course it's already in the satellite spectrum, just locked to Sky of course so to Freesat enable it requires just removing the scrambling).

RE: Freesat
Freeview HD launched yesterday (although only if you live in a handful of cities - didn't stop me from trying a channel scan Biggrin), and hopefully most of the UK will be covered in time for the summer. However I'm noticing a distinct lack of Freesat news regarding other HD channels. I thought Freesat was supposed to be the answer to all the broadcasters needs due to the bandwidth and opportunity for many HD channels. So why is Freeview HD now getting all the damn stuff!? I thought there wasn't room for any more channels on it, let alone HD Mellow

Either Freesat's been overshadowed by the Freeview HD launch and the news isn't worthy, or Sky have got the broadcasters who were contractually tied to them (i.e. Channel4), unable to broadcast via satellite for free. The next few days/weeks will tell I guess...

I'm bloody ditching Freesat, damn thing. Can't get any new HD channels let alone ITV HD, and it seems FreeviewHD is bringing the newer HD channels to 50% of the country come June, so I'll wait till then. Plus the Media Center guide isn't as in-depth on Freesat as it is on Freeview.

Damn broadcasters have got me chasing my tail...

RE: Freesat
Well I thought I'd sit down and do a bit of Googling on ITV HD and there's 2 posts to note:

This one saying that Microsoft don't officially support HD over Freesat

And this one with a little hack to enable ITV HD in Media Center should it not be currently be working for you.

UPDATE: ITV HD hack explained here.
