DvdFab
I bought DVDfab Bluray copier (lifetime registration) for £50 today.
I looked at anydvd hd and they said there only offering life time subscription till the end of the year and then that's it.
AnyDvd came out more expensive even with a 20% discount.

I also looked at makemkv, but did not like the limited option of only making mkvs with the software, besides there is a few complaints that films don't always manage to get the encryption broken.

DvdFab has always served me well.

Also topped up my movies points, so I can now choose any external player I like to play films when in media centre.
Vlc was my choice for that, because I have more options with what I can do with the film.
It works well for adjustments and subtitles.

RE: DvdFab
I bought a lifetime sub to AnyDVD HD - presumably whatthey mean (I got their email about this ceasing as well) is that no new customers will be able to buy the life time subs - those who have it are OK! I'd be pretty peeved if I had to buy it again!!

Cheers

RE: DvdFab
yea you hit the nail on the head, only new customers will be affected.

I guess there not making the money they want with the product.
On another note about dvdfab, it now has the ability to copy blu ray 3d as well.
It probably won't mean anything to me for 5 years seeing I just started my blu ray collection (2 now in my collection Thumbsup)

RE: DvdFab
dvdfab was my weapon of choice at the start of my htpc empire, i then moved to anydvd as dvdfab didnt always work with blu-rays. It does seem that dvdfab has closed the gap and could be even better.

as for makemkv, i like the mkv format but dont find it has the best film detection.

I used to rip Blu-rays with AnyDVDHD and DVDs with the free version of DVDFab (to rip just the main feature).

If you use DVDFab for Blu-ray though then AnyDVDHD is not needed I guess

RE: DvdFab
I found this interesting blog on the DVDfab pages posted not long ago.
I know it's not OMG that's brilliant, just a note for those who may be interested in making a choice in buying a copier type program.
Personally I have seen a difference when ripping blu ray

Lightning-Recoding is a break-through technology developed by DVDFab recently to improve the performance of Blu-ray Copy. It is exclusively owned by DVDFab. Users can copy progressive H264 Blu-ray video with compression much faster than before with Lightning-Recording enabled.

What is Lightning-Recoding?

Lightning-Recoding is the new-tech which can reuse the original information of the source video to decrease the calculating work during compression, thus increase the converting speed to a very large extent – approximately 40% at maximum. It is the homebrew of DVDFab.

Where is Lightning-Recoding used?

Lightning-Recoding will be automatically activated in “Full Disc” and “Main Movie” mode of Blu-ray Copy, when the source is progressive H264 video, and when it comes to compression.

Does Lightning-Recoding perform well?

Lightning-Recording was tested times after times and proves to be stable and perform excellently. The forms below are for you to understand clearly.

ENV: Win7 Ultimate + Core i7 860 2.8GHZ + NVIDIA
DVDFab Blu-ray Copy 8.0.5.6
AVATAR (to BD 25) 120 min
Iron Man 2 (to BD 25) 106 min
Predators (to BD 25) 55 min
DVDFab Blu-ray Copy 8.0.5.8 (Beta)
with Lightning-Recoding enabled

AVATAR (to BD 25) 84 min
Iron Man 2 (to BD 25) 82 min
Predators (to BD 25) 45 min

ENV: XP SP3 + Core i7 930 2.8GHZ + NVIDIA GTX 460
DVDFab Blu-ray Copy 8.0.5.6
AVATAR (to BD 25) 120 min
2012 (to BD 25) 85 min
Alice In Wonder Land 51 min
(to BD 9)
DVDFab Blu-ray Copy 8.0.5.8 (Beta)
with Lightning-Recoding enabled

AVATAR (to BD 25) 90 min
2012 (to BD 25) 65 min
Alice In Wonder Land 45 min
(to BD 9)

Now DVDFab Blu-ray Copy 8.0.6.0 has just declared its release with lightning recoding technology embeded. If you want to experience this superfast speed of lightning recoding, do not hasitate to go to http://www.dvdfab.com/blu-ray-copy.htm and try out this new feature.

Have fun with Lightning-Recoding and merry Christmas!

RE: DvdFab
Just finished recording Cloudy with a chance of meatballs.
I have some recording details with cuda enabled DVDfab

Film run time 86min
Film size 20.2GB (main movie with foreign subtitles and audio tracks removed)

Starting rip speed 11.1mb/s
Finish rip speed 20.93mb/s
Total rip time - 19.53 Min's

I cant state it's 40% faster as I haven't compared with the old version, but I still think its faster than before (maybe 20 - 30% faster)
I'm happy at least Thumbsup

RE: DvdFab
Big Fan of DVDFab (Both DVD and Blu-Ray) , Avoided it for a bit when playing around with Blu-ray as it rejected a number of disks or kept trying to another Blu ray instead of copying to disk like the settings told it to.

Noticed after the most recent release that included the lovely lighting recording that its greatly improved, Happy recommend it to people again.

I tried using Anydvd and a number of other when deciding if i was going to follow ISOs or File structure... in the end just didn't get on with it.

RE: DvdFab
DVD fab have bought out the function to add a miniiso to the original bluray/dvd file structure.
Some players like power dvd will not play a blu ray file structure, so this is a great work around.
You can also get there free software that lets you create up to 18 virtual drives.
article for miniiso is here
Why settle for one way when you can have best of both Thumb
