DIY Ambilight
Hi all
Thought I would dropp this in here rather than in the Linux section, mainly because it's not linux ![]() Found the article on AVFORUMS about DIY Ambilights a while back and thought hmm that would be good, but as they concluded just solid colour does not realy do it well. After a bit of searching round the net I found this site and built the Single Piranah (All in one RGB LED) battery powered mood light. Long story short he had another project which I now have nearly all the parts for, I like the challenge of making them for myself, (he now sells a kit!). See what you think of using his new one behind the TV:- Power Mosfet LED Driver You get an idea of what it does by looking at his latest one, No Circuit as yet though Darn it, HERE IT IS Andy #1 - "Stay sane inside insanity", #2 - "Liberate te ex inferis" or #3 - "There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't" |

RE: DIY Ambilight
Hi Andy
I looked at this some time ago, and thought it was cool. I didn't know if it was a gimik, but apparentley there is research to show that ambilight does extend the periphal view of the source. Our eyes don't make out detail from a certain angle, just colours and movement, so effectivly ambilight gives an apperance of a bigger picture. Also light behind a viewing source is ment to lessen the strain on our eyes. On a technical side. I would love to make this, shouldnt be to hard for me with my electronic background, but I have always lacked confidence when programing and compiling those pesky pic chips. Unless the thing is done for me, its out of my league. Also if im right the source has to come from a pc output so it can decode the pwm. When someone makes a kit or to buy for under £30I will give it a go, let us know if you do it. How are you thinking of controlling this btw. "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |

RE: DIY Ambilight
ditto to what Northan said.
I looked at it about a year ago, but gave up after I realised the hours needed to do it would be less beneficial than upgrading to a Philips TV itself. Bloody cool if it's your cup o' tea though and can do it without too much effort. On another DIY LED subject, I'd like to try these DIY stairwell lights some time this year. Pretty easy to do with the kit the guy sells and pretty pimp if done well. elootos - mediacenterhouse.com This forum has no strict rules, just those I make up as I go along! |

RE: DIY Ambilight
Looks swish, would be nice if the lights trailed you up stairs giving you a lighted platform around your feet.
If the stairs were made from frosted glass, well that would be the dogs balls. My little mid terrace is gona look like something from startrek "Do or do not. There is no try." Yoda |
