BSOD with memory issues
I've been getting freezes on the bedroom PC in recent weeks and the occasional BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) reporting memory mapping probs (or so a Google search tells me).
So I thought if it seems memory related why not try and remove one of the sticks of RAM and see what happens. And it cured it! Not sure why after 2 years of use a stick of RAM should suddenly die, but I stuck it back in the PC yesterday and ran a memory test (available on a Ubuntu CD/Mem stick!) and it crashed that. Take out the RAM and it ran fine with the remaining 2Gb stick. So I'm now thinking it could be the slot itself on the mobo and not actually the RAM itself. Anyways, alls running now with just 2Gb and when bored one day in the near future will test swap the sticks over and see if the mobo is at fault or the RAM. Still a bit odd that it should fail after not much use though.
