BBC One HD Since DVB-S2 Switch
Hi Folks,

Has anyone got BBC One HD (and Channel 4 HD for that matter) working since the Beeb switch the HD signal to the DVB-S2 transponder?

I only had DVB-S cards so I've just purchased a Nova-HD-S2 card and stuck it in but can't find BBC One HD . . .

I've installed the latest drivers and followed some info on the Haupp site & then tried manually scanning for;

Carrier Frequency: 10847 Mhz
Symbol Rate: 23000 kSymbols/s
Polarization: Vertical

But when I put the values in, I get no signal strength . . . and ultimately when I click 'next' for it to scan, it returns Zero channels . . .

What am I missing?

Thanks

Cliff
Just had a thought . . .

Prior to the swap, I had 2 Compro 350 DVB-S cards and what I've done is swap one of the two cards for a Nova-HD-S2 card . . . when I go to the TV Setup, it displays that it's found 2 DVB-S cards . . .

Could it be that Media Center can't handle a mix of DVB-S & S2 cards?

Bloody thing . . . I'm not impressed with BBC buggering about with these things with little forewarning!

Help

Yeah I also struggle with my Nova S2 and an S350 ; thats why I'm going to try and move back to Freeview, specifically Freeview HD and DVB-T2. Freesat seems like an afterthought from both the broadcasters and Microsoft and not very well supported. However I can pick up BBC HD and Channel 4HD through DVBViewer. Best €15 you'll spend on any Media Center PC. I've been using it to trouble shoot as it gives proper feedback on signal strength etc and gives a true scan of the Astra sat to work out what you can receive. A scan on a Nova S2 brings up all the encrypted HD and 3D channels from Sky: the big tease!!

DVBViewer also has a few neat tricks such as streaming channels from a web-based epg.

Cheers . . . I'm desperately trying to avoid the non-satelite route for now because I know the reception in our area isn't 'the best' because there's quite a few very large trees on the adjacent streets which tend to mess up the signal strength, especially in summer.

After I posted this, I tried to start from scratch again . . . removed both cards, uninstalled the Nova T drivers, rebooted, re-installed just the Nova T card, installed the latest drivers from the Hauppage 'site (I don't really know why they bother shipping a CD with hardware these days?! The drivers are always out of date by the time they arrive through the door!) and ran through the setup process with just the 1 DVB-S2 card in . . . with this setup, I got all the HD channels that I was looking for.

So . . . I've admitted defeat and ordered a 2nd Nova-T-HD card to resume the ability to record / watch 2 feeds again . . . bloody annoying, but at least I'll be sorted.

I might experiment with DVB-T2 (and a different aerial which I have sat in the loft waiting to be installed if I'm brave enough to scale the ladders!) on the cinema PC because with having the bigger screen in there, to watch Live TV it really could do with being in HD as much as possible . . .

Have you actually had a go with DVB-T2 yet or are you awaiting delivery of a card?

Have you checked the latest Freeview signal on ukfree.tv?

They are increasing signal strength as the analogue gets switched off. I guess this is because the digital signals won't interfere with each other compared to analogue transmissions.

My area is now covered completely whereas it always used to a fringe reception. That's why I'm going to try DVB-T2 and see how well it sits within Media Center.

Been busy of late and it's windy this weekend so the aerial will have to wait to be rotated. Times like this I wish I had a bungalow Dry

Just checked and it shows my postcode in the middle of a green area on the map and next to a yellow area . . . but I can't actually see a key to the map so I've no real idea what green & yellow means!?!? But it says that I won't get the HD channels until 31st August . . .

My main issue though is trees rather than anything else . . . the streets all around our area are tree-lined (especially in the direction of my preferred transmitter) and are all 50' + high so no matter where I postition my aerial, I find I struggle to get a good signal on every channel . . . but I'll play with it when I get more time as my new aerial might help a bit . . .

If you lived in a bungalow, your aerial would be lower and so more susceptible to interference from trees tho ;0)

Like you, I've been putting off the 'death climb' up the ladder whilst weilding the aerial / mounting pole in the wind . . . especially after my next door neighbour (who's a builder so very used to going up ladders) managed to slip off a ladder a mere 6' up and shattered his ankle a couple of weeks back - now has several metal plates and some screws holding it together! Kinda puts you off these things for a while!

I got my 2nd Nova T card t'other day so with this I'm back to multi channel viewing / recording (albeit another £90 lighter)
