Apple TV (the new one)
Had this email pop into my inbox this week. They've shrunk it quite a bit, does look like a cool gadget being so tiny Ohmy. With Google TV on the horizon I guess it's Google TV vs Apple TV. Fight!

Thinking of it, streaming films would solve a lot of headaches of storing them all Biggrin

RE: Apple TV (the new one)
I would wait off before buying a new Apple TV, the set up allows streaming from iTunes on a PC only and is restricted in file types, the video store only lets you rent not buy so it is really a glorified revenue box in your living room! The good news though is that it is based on iOS which is the same as the iPhone and iPAD and it looks as if it can be jailbroken to allow some excellent media center front ends such as Plex or XMBC.

Google TV has some serious flaws with its internet client, there are none of the extra security tools available in Google Chrome so if you hit a site with popups which keep on popping up then you have to reboot, excellent idea especially if it is a pornbot and you’re trying to watch a family movie.

Haha, yeah that's the problem with Apple: iTunes only and damned expensive films! Starting at £3.50 for streaming?!

You gotta have deep pockets to kit your house out with Apple gear.

RE: Apple TV (the new one)
Hi

I have just set up the new apple tv box up at my grandads and for £99 i think its a good big of kit.
It sends video music pictures over wifi from his mac.
I tryed playing a picture side show as well as listening to music. There was no problems.
Then we tryed playing about with the mac at the same time and it still didnt affect the apple tv box.
The only thing that it dosent do is play things like bbc iplayer etc.

Growing up is optional

How many films does your Grandad have on his Mac?

He has only got films which he has made. He hasnt got any dvds yet. Once he has mastered the apple tv box then i said i would look into putting some of his dvds on.

RE: Apple TV (the new one)
Apple TV does the trick if you jailbreak/hack it to run Plex or XBMC. If you are satisfied with limiting yourself to 720p and compressed 5.1 then it is a great pice of kit.
