OK - not being greedy or anything - I have 1 slot left for a hard drive in my HTPC, but there are way more films I want to get and see than will fit on a 2tb or 3tb HDD in that slot.

So, how do I add more drives - is there any external 'magic' box that can house a handfull more drives, and if so how do I connect it to the HTPC? There are'nt enough SATA connectors left - one or two left (at least one for the last drive).

Would this work? I would be happy if anyone can confirm if this is the right thing??

I would like a 2, 3 or 4 bay 'box' for more HDDs with the box connected to the HTPC and the HTPC seeing them as though they are internally mounted - no separate switching or anything. Does this exist??

Cheers

There are several options. One would be to move to a bigger PC case and get some sata expansion cards (about £15 for 3 more ports).

Or like you're planning, get some external drive bays for USB2. If you already have the drives then just some cases like these.

Or when buying your new drives, get external ones instead of internal. They can be just as cheap some times as their internal versions.

Lastly, build yourself a server, unRAID being my preference.

I just added two extra drives to friends system with ide to sata adapters picked up off eBay for a couple of quid. Handy if like him you don't have any pci slots free. They seem to work fine for stored media.
