Abbreviations used in the AV world
Hi all,

Im a COMPLETE beginner but very keen to learn, only problem is the amount of abbreviations used.

I've an idea.. With the help of all, we (obviously not meLoco) can compile a list so that we (meaning the likes of me) can refer back to them when reading posts. Wikipedia doesn't have all the answers!Help

In alphabetical order would be even more helpfulSmile

Thanks,

Julian.

Hellooo and welcome Wave

Well I did create the Wiki here on this site to help users out. However I've been a bit (read:very) lazy with it and not updated anything for months!

I'm more than happy to fill it up with info (or help start pages for others to write on), but what kind of abbreviations would help? Throw us an example of certain ones.

I'd actually like this forum software to auto-link the keywords to the Wiki but I think that may be beyond the scope of my powers!

Hi Elootos Maybe inside the Wiki you should have an page of abbreviations inside that maybe have all differnet page for differnet letters.
Then everyone should be able to help you fill it in

eg

(Page C)

Cpu ----- Central processing unit

(Page L)

Lan ----- Local area network

Is there any way of making it auto alphabetical order?

Growing old is compulsory...
Growing up is optional

RE: Abbreviations used in the AV world
UPDATE - DANG IT! Not working. Replaces too much html in the page title etc so will have to postpone this for now till I can get my head round it.

OK, I'm getting somewhere with this one.

I can auto-link keywords in this forum to Wiki pages.

WHS for example. Or RAID even.

I'll work on loading some more into the filter and building the Wiki pages.

EDIT: If the links go to blank Wiki pages, you can of course enter the info yourself (if you know it!) by logging in using the same username/password.

RE: Abbreviations used in the AV world
OK, I think I have cracked it, kind of.

I can now set keywords to generate autolinks to the Wiki, such as just writing RAID and WHS.

Just need to fill out the autolinks and populate the Wiki Rolleyes
