55deg server temp!
Ouch, my server's internal temp read 55deg at the weekend with outside afternoon temps hitting 26deg.
So I've decided there are 2 options; vent it similar to the lounge HTPC in the attic by fitting a showerfan to vent outside air into the case, or, move it to another room in the house (prob a spare bedroom) for the summer. This would only require running a longer network lead to it and as long as I can keep it from humming through the floor then I may choose that solution over the vent in the attic idea. Not keen on frying 5Tb of hard disk...

RE: 55deg server temp!
Biggest trouble I have with most of my equipment is temps and noise.
silent pc has some great articals on making a pc silent. Sound isolating and cooling are well covered, but I'm sure with your job you come across this often. Let us know with pictures what you do

RE: 55deg server temp!
My solution to a hot server? Get some software that doesn't spin the damn drives all the time.
My software-choice-of-the-month, unRAID, only spins up each drive as it's needed and what with this colder weather settling in I've noticed the server gets no where near as hot as it used to when all the drives were spinning away under WHS; this was how it used to keep itself warm in the winter up in my loft! I'm already reading temps as low as 10C which sounds a bit condensation-like to me. And it's not even that cold outside yet! Time to do what I never thought; wrap it up to keep it warm and turn the fans down/off! elootos - mediacenterhouse.com This forum has no strict rules, just those I make up as I go along! |
